South Africa urges cease-fire in Lebanon to avoid regional conflict

South Africa is urging for an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel. The airstrikes by Israel have resulted in the deaths of hundreds and displacement of thousands of civilians. Pretoria specifically expressed concern over the recent “extrajudicial killings” in Lebanon, including the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The South African foreign ministry strongly condemned Israel’s indiscriminate bombings, labeling them as violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. They believe these actions only serve to escalate tensions in the already volatile Middle East region, hindering any peace efforts.

Solidarity was expressed towards Lebanon, with a call for accountability of the perpetrators through an international investigation. South Africa emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and adherence to international law to prevent further escalation and devastating consequences.
