Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his commitment to achieving all objectives in Ukraine on the second anniversary of annexing four Ukrainian regions, with new advances reported by Russian forces. Despite Kyiv’s cross-border offensive into Russian territory, Moscow has captured numerous Ukrainian towns and villages this year.
In a video address marking “Reunification Day,” Putin reiterated his reasons for sending troops into Ukraine, citing protection of Russian speakers from a “neo-Nazi dictatorship.” Russia claimed to annex Ukrainian regions in 2022 but does not fully control them.
Amid relentless assault in eastern Ukraine, the Russian army announced the liberation of the Ukrainian village of Nelipivka. The main target remains the Ukrainian logistics hub of Pokrovsk.
‘One-on-one talks’
Following fresh missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, Putin’s comments coincided with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga’s meeting with Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto. Hungary, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, has notably maintained ties with the Kremlin and withheld military support for Kyiv.
