President Katerina Sakellaropoulou has rejected a request from the minor populist party Course of Freedom (Plefsi Eleftherias) to release the minutes of a key meeting after Greeks voted against austerity terms in 2015.

Sakellaropoulou stated that the council of political leaders is informal and discussions are confidential, with only joint communiques issued after meetings. The motives behind the request by Course of Freedom leader Zoe Konstantopoulou remain unclear.

The meeting in question involved prominent Greek political figures and lasted six hours, focusing on Greece’s position in the eurozone. Pressure was reported on then-Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to negotiate with European creditors to avoid a Grexit.

The joint communique issued after the meeting emphasized the need to continue efforts for a socially just and economically viable agreement, with one leader refusing to sign.
