The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission and others top the 2024 Freedom of Information Ranking
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, and the Development Bank of Nigeria have emerged as the top three agencies on the 2024 Freedom of Information Ranking of 245 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in Nigeria. This ranking was unveiled by the Public and Private Development Centre in collaboration with various organizations.
Among the top five ranked institutions are also the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms. On the other hand, the institutions ranking lowest include the Office of the National Security Adviser and the National Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
These rankings were based on the level of disclosure, responsiveness to FoI requests, and proactiveness of the public institutions. Only a small percentage of MDAs were fully proactive and disclosed requested information adequately. Challenges faced during the assessment included inactive websites of some institutions.
Overall, efforts are being made to promote transparency in Nigeria and encourage better performance from non-proactive MDAs in the future.
