Man accused of €1.4m gold seizure in Dublin

A dramatic court appearance followed a massive seizure of €1.4m worth of gold bullion in Dublin, along with €460,000 in cash and €210,000 worth of drugs. Farhats Bathijevs, a 55-year-old resident of Lucan, faced ten charges related to the seizures, including money laundering, theft, and drug possession.

The Dublin Crime Response Team made the arrest last Friday, with 18 kilograms of gold bars and coins, cash, and drugs discovered during searches of a business premises and a residential property. Mr. Bathijevs made no reply to the charges during the court hearing and opted not to apply for bail.

While two women were also arrested in connection with the seizures, Mr. Bathijevs was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison. The case will continue via video on October 4th. The dramatic events have left Dublin residents stunned, with more details sure to emerge as the case develops.
