Tragic Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon Leave 63 Dead
On Monday, Lebanon was hit by a devastating wave of Israeli airstrikes, resulting in at least 63 fatalities and 92 injuries, as reported by the Health Ministry. The town of Ain Ed Delb in southern Lebanon bore the brunt of the attacks, with 45 people losing their lives and 70 others sustaining injuries. In addition, 12 people were killed and 20 injured in the eastern region of Hermel. The strikes also targeted a civil defense center in the town of Sohmor, leading to the deaths of six medics.
Since September 23, Israel has been conducting airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, causing over 900 deaths and 2,700 injuries. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated that a ceasefire would only be considered if Hezbollah is pushed away from the border and disarmed. Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed Lebanon’s readiness to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to prevent further escalation.
The international community has raised concerns that the situation in Lebanon could trigger a broader regional conflict, especially amidst ongoing hostilities with Gaza. It is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize peace and diplomacy to prevent further loss of life.
