Recent hostilities in the Middle East have escalated as Israel targeted an apartment building in Beirut with an airstrike, marking the first attack within the city limits. The strike, which hit the upper floor of the building in the Kola district, has raised concerns about the conflict drawing in Iran and the United States, Israel’s main ally.
Israel has been increasing its attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthi militia in Yemen. The airstrikes have resulted in casualties, with at least four people killed in Yemen and 105 in Lebanon. Thousands have been wounded, and a million people have been forced to flee their homes in Lebanon.
The Israeli airstrikes have targeted key leaders of Hezbollah, including Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. The situation remains tense as Israel vows to continue its assault in order to secure its northern areas from further rocket attacks by Hezbollah.
Despite calls for a diplomatic resolution from the United States, tensions in the region remain high. US President Joe Biden has expressed the need to avoid an all-out war in the Middle East and plans to discuss the situation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
