Israel Conducts Limited Ground Operations in Lebanon: US State Department
The US State Department confirmed that Israeli forces are currently conducting limited ground operations targeting Hezbollah inside Lebanon. The operations are focused on Hezbollah infrastructure near the border, according to State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
Lebanese media reported heavy shelling and tank fire near the border villages of Metula, Misgav Am, and Kfar Giladi in northern Israel. The Lebanese army is repositioning its forces in response to the ongoing conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Tehran of Israel’s reach in the region, while Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hinted at escalating the war against Hezbollah. The US President, Joe Biden, expressed awareness of Israel’s plans and urged for a ceasefire.
The recent airstrike in Beirut and escalating tensions raise concerns of a wider regional conflict. Israel continues its offensive against Hezbollah, with casualties reported on both sides.
International efforts for a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful, as the situation remains tense along the Israel-Lebanon border.
