Anti-government protesters to be executed
Iranian authorities executed two men in public over the killing of a police officer during an armed robbery in central Iran. The death sentence was carried out in public in the city of Khomein, the judiciary’s Mizan Online reported.
The two convicts shot dead a police officer almost four years ago while attempting to flee after clashes with law enforcement. Iran carries out the highest number of executions annually after China, with a significant increase in executions in recent years.
Rights groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have raised concerns about Iran’s use of capital punishment for various crimes, highlighting the need for reform in the country’s judicial system.
Iran’s execution practices and the recent surge in public executions have drawn international condemnation, calling for a more transparent and fair legal process in the country.
Despite global pressure, Iran continues to carry out executions, raising human rights concerns and the need for meaningful reforms to ensure justice and accountability in the country.
