Government to press sedition charges against PTI leaders

The federal government in Islamabad has made a bold decision to pursue legal action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders following their controversial speeches at a recent rally in Sangjani.

On 8th September 2024, PTI leaders made statements at the rally that prompted the government to file a sedition case under Section 196 of the Penal Code, a serious, non-bailable offense.

Under Section 196, law enforcement has the authority to apprehend individuals without the need for a warrant.

The Ministry of Law and the Federal Prosecutor General have signaled their support for this action, seeking formal approval from the Federal Cabinet.

This development reflects the government’s heightened crackdown on opposition figures amidst escalating political tensions.
