The federal government recently announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, with petrol prices lowered by Rs2.07 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.4 per litre for the upcoming fortnight. This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide relief to the general public.
According to a statement released by state broadcaster PTV, the new prices stand at Rs247.03 for petrol, Rs246.29 for HSD, Rs154.9 for kerosene oil, and Rs140.9 for light diesel oil. These reductions follow a previous cut on September 15, when petrol prices were decreased by Rs10 per litre and HSD by Rs13.06 per litre.
While the general sales tax on petroleum products is zero, the government continues to impose a petroleum development levy of Rs60 per litre on petrol and HSD, resulting in a significant tax burden on consumers.
