Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old man accused of plotting to kill Donald Trump at his Florida golf course, pleaded not guilty to federal charges on Monday. His lawyer entered the plea and requested a jury trial.
Routh was arrested after a Secret Service agent saw a rifle barrel near where Trump was playing golf. Charged with attempted assassination, assault, and firearms offenses, he appeared in court wearing a prison uniform and shackles.
Assassination Attempt on Trump
FBI analysis showed Routh was near Trump’s golf course and residence before his arrest. Court documents revealed a letter claiming the failed attempt on Trump’s life and offering a reward for finishing the job.
The Routh case has been assigned to federal District Judge Aileen Cannon, who dismissed a case against Trump earlier this year. Routh, identified as a Hawaii resident, remains in custody.
