Bulgaria evacuates 89 nationals, plans more rescues

A Bulgarian government jet safely returned 89 nationals evacuated from Lebanon to Sofia, with Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev ensuring the safety and security of future evacuations. Glavchev stated, “We will evacuate the Bulgarians from Lebanon in the safest way, regardless of the cost, because there is nothing more expensive than human life.” Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova reported that out of approximately 400 Bulgarians in Lebanon, 160 have requested evacuation, with more set to follow in subsequent flights once safety is ensured.

A quick evacuation was organized by the embassy within 24 hours, with one mother, Jana Sharaf, highlighting the urgency as the bombings escalated. She described the fear and uncertainty faced by families in Lebanon during the conflict. The government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of its citizens in times of crisis was evident through the swift evacuation process.
