Bolivia shifts gas sales from Argentina to Brazil
After ceasing gas supply to Argentina, Bolivia is now increasing gas exports to Brazil as per an agreement between YPFB and Petrobras. Argentina stopped importing Bolivian gas due to the Vaca Muerta formation satisfying its domestic gas needs.
YPFB President Armin Dorgathen stated, “We began sending more gas to Petrobras starting September 30. This shift was planned for about two years due to the situation with Argentina.”
Analysts claim Bolivia lacked gas to sell to Argentina, but Dorgathen dismissed this and highlighted Brazil’s willingness to pay more. He also mentioned the potential for Vaca Muerta gas to reach Brazil in the future.
Dorgathen emphasized that the western Brazilian market relies on Bolivian gas, ensuring a continued market for Bolivia despite Argentina’s shift.
