In the recent general election held in April, it was revealed that the voter turnout was highest among those in their 70s and lowest among those in their 20s. The analysis by the National Election Commission showed that the voter turnout among those in their 70s was 84.7%, while it dropped to 52.4% for those in their 20s.
Interestingly, the voter turnout was higher among women (67.9%) compared to men (66.5%). When looking at age and gender combined, it was found that men in their 70s had the highest voter turnout at 87.7%. On the other hand, men in their late 20s had the lowest turnout at 45.6%.
Compared to the previous election, the voter turnout for those aged 50 and above increased, while it decreased for those below 40. The data also showed that voter turnout dropped significantly among younger age groups.
The overall voter turnout in the 22nd general election was 67.0%, a slight increase from the previous election. The analysis, based on 44,525,191 eligible voters, highlighted the changing demographics of voters in South Korea.
