The Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Kunle Salako, emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s determination to tackle the economic challenges facing Nigeria. During the 44th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in Abeokuta, Salako highlighted Tinubu’s plans to enhance power generation, infrastructure, access to capital, and economic diversification to uplift the nation.
Salako, a physician himself, addressed the issue of frequent strikes in the healthcare sector, stating that it affects the sector’s resilience. He urged health workers to reconsider the use of strikes as a tool and emphasized the importance of job satisfaction and workforce retention for a robust healthcare system.
Additionally, Salako discussed the negative impact of the “japa syndrome” on the health system and called for patriotism among health workers. He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to overcome challenges and restore economic prosperity under President Tinubu’s leadership.
The National President of NARD, Dele Abdullahi, recognized resident doctors as crucial to the healthcare system and called for improved working conditions and paychecks to enhance their contribution to nation-building.
