The Guardian Nigeria: Expert explains rise in food prices

A security expert, James Vandefan, has urged President Bola Tinubu to implement both kinetic and non-kinetic security measures to combat the rising insecurity in the country. Vandefan, a retired senior police officer, linked the escalating cost of food to high energy costs and compromises by security agents.

He emphasized the importance of decisive orders from the president to the service chiefs to tackle insecurity effectively. Vandefan suggested that if the service chiefs fail to execute presidential orders, they should be dismissed. He also highlighted the impact of government economic policies on the falling Naira and high food production costs.

Vandefan called for a strong willpower to address insecurity through coordinated operations. He criticized the extortion by security operatives, especially the police, on highways, affecting food transportation costs. While commending President Tinubu’s efforts in economic reform, Vandefan urged more actions to alleviate the challenges faced by Nigerians.
