Vice President Kashim Shettima recently returned to Abuja after attending the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Representing President Bola Tinubu, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s National Statement at the General Debate and engaged in various bilateral meetings and events at the assembly.
During the meeting, Tinubu called for debt forgiveness for Nigeria and other developing countries, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism and cooperation among member states. Shettima, representing Tinubu, reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with member states of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States at a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA.
The President highlighted the need for special concessions and a review of debt burdens for countries in the global South to make significant economic progress. This reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to addressing global challenges and working towards the goals of the OACPS.
