Nepal floods and landslides claim 104 lives

Monsoon Devastation in Nepal: Death Toll Rises to 104

The recent monsoon floods and landslides in Nepal have tragically claimed the lives of 104 individuals, with many more still missing. The toll is expected to rise as reports continue to come in from various villages across the country.

Since Thursday, torrential rains have wreaked havoc in eastern and central Nepal, causing widespread destruction. However, weather conditions have improved, allowing for ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.

Kathmandu’s Struggle

Kathmandu, the capital city, has been hit particularly hard, with over half of the reported deaths occurring in the region. The intensity of the rainfall is said to be the worst seen in decades, leading to severe flooding in many neighborhoods.

Roads connecting Kathmandu to other areas have been blocked by landslides, hampering the rescue operations. Power outages and internet disruptions have also been reported.

The government has taken preventive measures by closing schools and colleges for three days. Weather officials attribute the heavy rainfall to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
