Mitsotakis: Dialogue with Erdogan doesn’t equal full agreement

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece’s stance on Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus and sovereignty after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the UN General Assembly in New York. The leaders discussed cooperation on migration and have plans for a high-level meeting in 2025.

Despite their discussions, Mitsotakis emphasized, “The fact that we’re talking to Erdogan doesn’t mean that we agree on everything.” The ongoing division of Cyprus since the 1974 Turkish invasion has hindered peace talks, with the Turkish Cypriot side seeking recognition of its sovereignty in any future discussions.
