Ishiba suggests late October general election, in process of forming Cabinet

With Shigeru Ishiba set to become the new prime minister after being elected as the Liberal Democratic Party President, all eyes are on a possible snap general election at the end of next month. Ishiba, who won the party presidency and is now putting together the LDP’s senior leadership team, hinted at the possibility of dissolving the Lower House and calling for an election soon to secure a mandate for his leadership.

During an NHK program, Ishiba acknowledged the possibility of a snap election, stating that “the earlier, the better.” This move comes as Ishiba aims to solidify support for both the party and his leadership through a general election. As the extraordinary session of parliament approaches, Japan awaits the outcome of these political developments with keen interest.
