Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Chief of the General Staff of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Abdul Amir Yarallah, met with the Chief of the Defense Staff of France, Thierry Bukhard, in Paris to discuss a military cooperation agreement between Iraq and France. The two sides focused on enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces after the conclusion of the international coalition mission in Iraq.
Yarallah and Bukhard previously discussed providing modern weapons and equipment to the Iraqi Army, including a deal executed with Airbus to purchase 14 military helicopters, including 12 H225M multi-role combat helicopters. The delivery of helicopters is set to begin in early 2025.
The Iraqi Prime Minister expressed openness to partnerships with French companies to strengthen the defense capabilities of the armed forces. Discussions between Iraq and France have included contracts with companies like Thales and potential supply agreements for radars, Rafale aircraft, and military helicopters.
The Iraqi and French air forces have also conducted joint exercises, highlighting the growing cooperation between the two countries in terms of military operations.
