FG ramps up efforts to promote e-government adoption

The Federal Government is accelerating the adoption of e-government systems to enhance efficiency and accessibility for citizens. During the recent e-Government Summit in Lagos, Nigerian officials and industry experts emphasized the importance of improved connectivity to support governance enhancements.

The unveiling of the 1Government Cloud Software by Galaxy Backbone in July marked a significant step in providing secure data storage and software to Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. This initiative aligns with the Nigeria e-Government Master Plan launched in 2020 to support economic growth strategies.

Despite regulatory challenges, the government aims to involve the private sector in implementing e-government projects by establishing clear standards and guidelines. Suggestions have been made for the creation of a dedicated agency to oversee the successful execution of the e-government agenda.

Engineer Lanre Ajayi highlighted the gap between government and citizens in e-government service delivery and stressed the ongoing nature of the transformation process. Increased collaboration and awareness efforts, as outlined by Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director, Professor Ibrahim Adepoju, are crucial in realizing the full potential of e-government initiatives.
