EU diplomat pushes for swift action on two-state solution

The EU’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, stressed the urgency of working towards a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict without waiting for a ceasefire. Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Borrell emphasized the need to start building peace now rather than later, as the current approach is “utopian” and does not reflect reality.

Borrell condemned the Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, calling for the creation of a Palestinian state and highlighting the civilian casualties in Lebanon as a result of the attacks. He pledged the EU’s continued support for the UNRWA to provide critical resources for Palestinian refugees.

By advocating for immediate action on a two-state solution and emphasizing the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict, Borrell’s stance sheds light on the complex dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian issue and the EU’s commitment to peace in the Middle East.
