Resisting Israeli Oppression: The Story of the “Church of Nations”
Amidst Israel’s ongoing campaign of destruction against the Palestinian people, activists recently built a church on the lands of the Qaisi family in the Makhroor area near Bethlehem. These lands were threatened by extremist settlers aiming to establish a new settlement.
This act of resistance brought together local and international peace activists, clergy, and even Israeli supporters of Palestinian rights who joined forces to construct the church. Despite Israeli forces attempting to intervene, the church was completed, adorned with Bible passages and images of the Virgin Mary.
The “Church of Nations” was inaugurated in solidarity with 40 cities globally, denouncing the violence in Gaza and condemning land theft in the West Bank. This church stands as a symbol of defiance against Israeli settlements, supporting the people of Makhroor and Beit Jala in their struggle to protect their land.
Through this powerful statement, activists aim to draw attention to the injustices faced by the Palestinian people and call on the world, regardless of religious beliefs, to stand up for justice and peace.
