Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reform to prioritize arrangements for Africa. Speaking at a meeting with African Union leaders and foreign ministers of UNSC permanent members, Wang highlighted the current lack of African representation in the UNSC as unjust. He expressed China’s support for addressing historical injustices faced by Africa through specific arrangements in the reform process.

Wang underlined the importance of giving developing countries, especially in the Global South, greater representation in the UNSC to enhance its authority and effectiveness. He stressed the UNSC should not be dominated by wealthy nations or used for political battles. Wang also reiterated support for the Intergovernmental Negotiations platform as the main channel for UNSC reform, promoting global consensus.
