In a time when the cost of living is on the rise, there is some relief for families as childcare expenses have decreased, thanks to government subsidies.
Australian families with children in care, who pay some of the highest fees globally, have seen a 13% reduction in out-of-pocket costs over the past year.
Despite this, Shadow Early Education Minister Angie Bell argues that childcare costs are actually up by 8.4% according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The government aims to further decrease costs, with proposals for free care for families earning under $80,000. This could be part of a plan towards universal childcare, potentially a key element in the government’s re-election strategy.
