Bullying on the Internet: A Global Concern
A recent report by Olena Zelenska, the spouse of the President of Ukraine, reveals a concerning statistic – around 16% of teenagers worldwide experience online humiliation and intimidation, with almost 12% admitting to engaging in cyberbullying themselves. This data was collected as part of an international study on teenage behavior, including countries from Central Asia, Canada, and Europe.
At the fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, the issue of bullying was highlighted, emphasizing the impact it can have on a child’s mental health and personality development. Bullying is not limited to the internet, as children can also face mistreatment at school, leading to long-lasting effects on their well-being.
To address this growing concern, experts from the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?” have compiled tips for parents, guardians, and teachers on how to effectively respond to bullying and protect children from harm. Additionally, a declaration on the protection of children’s rights was adopted at the Summit, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat this troubling trend.
The fight against online bullying requires a united effort from all sectors of society to create a safe and supportive environment for teenagers worldwide.
