1 million displaced in Lebanon from Israeli attacks

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati revealed that over one million people have been displaced as a result of Israeli attacks, marking the largest wave of displacement in the country’s history. Mikati emphasized the urgent need to halt Israeli aggression through diplomatic means, stating that Lebanon’s priority is to stop the ongoing conflict. He also reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, aimed at ending hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

In a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Mikati expressed gratitude for Baghdad’s support to Lebanon. Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to assisting Lebanon and offered condolences for the recent killing of Hezbollah Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut.

The Israeli army’s attacks in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least 816 people and injuries to over 2,500, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The international community has raised concerns that these attacks could escalate the ongoing Gaza conflict into a broader regional war.
