The upcoming military parade in South Korea, scheduled to commemorate the 76th anniversary of Armed Forces Day, has come under scrutiny due to reported injuries sustained during the preparation. Allegations have surfaced claiming that two soldiers were seriously injured during the rehearsal for the parade, with one suffering a fractured ankle and the other a fractured jaw. The incident has raised concerns about the necessity of such elaborate military displays, especially considering the substantial increase in the parade budget in recent years, reaching approximately 99 billion won in 2021.

Cheon Haram, a member of the Reformist Party, criticized the government for prioritizing extravagant military ceremonies over the safety and well-being of soldiers. He highlighted the need for a reevaluation of the event’s significance and called for a greater focus on preventing accidents and improving the living conditions of military personnel.

The parade is set to take place on October 1st, with road closures expected along key routes in Seoul and the southeastern region during the procession. The controversy surrounding the event underscores the ongoing debate regarding the balance between tradition, security, and financial responsibility within the military.
