Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States concluded with a meeting with former US President Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York. The week had its share of tension after Zelensky’s comments about Trump in an interview with The New Yorker. Despite unsuccessful meetings with President Biden and Vice President Harris, Zelensky reached out to Trump for a meeting.
Trump praised Zelensky’s integrity and their alliance during the press conference before their meeting. Fact-checkers revisited Trump’s 2019 impeachment trial where he pressured Zelensky to announce an investigation into Hunter Biden. Zelensky denied the claim that he said Trump did “absolutely nothing wrong.”
Zelensky described the meeting as “very productive” and emphasized the need for “a just peace.” His Victory Plan, presented to Biden and Harris, garnered a new military aid package worth nearly $8 billion for Ukraine. Despite some political tension, Zelensky highlighted the success of his US trip and looks forward to implementing decisions from the discussions.
