Saudi Arabia forms coalition to advocate for Palestinian statehood

Saudi Arabia has launched a new international coalition, the ‘Global Alliance,’ to push for a two-state solution to the longstanding Israel-Palestine conflict. The announcement was made by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud at the UN General Assembly in New York, with support from Arab and European nations, the Arab League, the OIC, the EU, and UN member states. This initiative comes amidst growing calls for a ceasefire in the Middle East following the recent Israeli air strikes in Lebanon, which have caused significant casualties and displacement.

The Global Alliance aims to work towards establishing a sovereign Palestinian state and achieving a comprehensive and just peace in the region. Saudi Arabia has made it clear that normalizing ties with Israel is contingent upon the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The first follow-up meetings of the Global Alliance will take place in various cities, marking a collective effort by the international community to address the conflict. US President Joe Biden has also expressed support for a two-state solution as the only viable path towards resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict. Overall, the formation of this coalition represents a significant step towards finding a lasting solution to a complex and protracted conflict.
