The House of Representatives has called on the EFCC Chairman, the Nigerian Correctional Service Comptroller General, Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan, and other officials involved in Bobrisky’s prosecution to appear before a joint committee to address corruption allegations. The lead chairman, Jon Ginger Onwusibe, sent out letters to all parties on Friday highlighting the need to investigate these claims against the EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Services.
Those summoned include ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Micheal Anugwa, Sikiru Adekunle, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan.
Background:
Bobrisky faced charges of money laundering and Naira abuse by the EFCC in April. While the money laundering charges were dismissed, he was sentenced to six months in prison for Naira abuse. Following his release, a leaked audio recording by VeryDarkMan revealed allegations of bribery involving EFCC officials extorting N15 million from Bobrisky to drop charges.
The EFCC has launched an investigation into the bribery allegations, with both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan requested to assist. The Minister of Interior has also initiated a separate inquiry into claims of bribery within the correctional system.
This development underscores the importance of transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies.
