Ondo, NGO educate 168 providers in birth control.

In a collaboration between the Ondo State Ministry of Health and International NGO, Jhpiego, 168 healthcare providers were trained on Hormonal Intrauterine Devices (HIUD) to enhance family planning services in the state. HIUD is a type of long-term birth control that utilizes hormones and is placed in the uterus.

The project, titled ‘Scaling up Hormonal Intrauterine Devices to primary health care facilities in Ondo State, Nigeria,’ has successfully trained service providers and educators on HIUD counseling, insertion, and removal procedures. This initiative aims to improve reproductive health outcomes and increase access to quality contraceptive services.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, expressed gratitude for the project, emphasizing the importance of family planning in ensuring informed reproductive health decisions. The Project Coordinator, Mrs. Hannatu Abdullahi, highlighted the goal of supporting the national strategy on HIUD introduction and scale-up to meet the needs of women in Nigeria.

This collaborative effort demonstrates the commitment to expanding family planning options and building capacity among healthcare providers to promote reproductive health in the region.
