A European Parliament member, Fernand Kartheiser from Luxembourg, has urged Azerbaijan to ensure Armenia’s territorial integrity, protect Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno Karabakh, and release Armenian prisoners. Kartheiser’s letter to the Azeri ambassador to the EU before COP29 in Baku emphasized the importance of signing a peace treaty with Armenia promptly to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Highlighting the plight of Armenian prisoners of war and unlawfully detained individuals in Nagorno Karabakh, Kartheiser urged the Azeri government to release them, stating that such a humanitarian gesture would be well received by the international community. He stressed the significance of guaranteeing Armenia’s territorial integrity and preserving its cultural heritage as essential steps towards lasting peace.
With the eyes of the world on Baku for #COP29, I have written to the Azeri ambassador to the EU to push for peace with Armenia.
Baku must:
👉 guarantee Armenia’s territorial integrity
👉 preserve Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno Karabakh
