The Odisha government has decided to suspend internet services in Bhadrak district for 48 hours following violent communal incidents fueled by social media posts. The Home department cited the potential for messaging platforms like Whatsapp, Facebook, and others to stoke communal tension and disrupt public order as the reason for the suspension.
During this 48-hour period, the following services will be unavailable in the district: social media platforms of all mobile service providers, mobile internet/data services, internet/data services of all ISPs, broadband dial-up systems, and any other modes of transmission.
This drastic measure aims to prevent further escalation of violence and maintain peace in the troubled region. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.
