EU Council chief calls on Israel to prioritize peace for true security

European Council President Charles Michel emphasized the importance of achieving lasting peace for Israel’s security in his address to the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly. He stated that security without peace is impossible and that the Palestinian people have the right to their own state.

Michel called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, condemning all indiscriminate attacks on civilian populations. He highlighted the EU’s commitment to working towards a two-state solution for lasting peace in the region.

He advocated for a democratic and strong state of Israel coexisting peacefully with the Palestinian people, expressing the need for respect and dignity for all parties involved. Furthermore, he criticized Israeli attacks on Lebanon as “irresponsible.”

The ongoing conflict in the region has led to displacement and suffering for thousands, underscoring the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution. Michel’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of diplomacy and cooperation in achieving lasting peace.
