This winter, consumers can expect reduced prices for heating oil and natural gas, while a slight increase is projected for electricity. The government is considering increasing subsidies for electric heating devices to encourage a shift towards cleaner energy sources. In addition to higher heating allowances, the Environment and Energy Ministry is planning a subsidy program for heat pumps, aiming to subsidize 50%-60% of the installation cost.
The program, set to launch in the fall, will target all households, regardless of income, to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. By 2030, the goal is to have 17% of households using heat pumps, increasing to 91% by 2050. The government plans to ban new oil burners by 2025 and cease incentives for new gas boilers post-2025 to facilitate this transition.
Current data indicates lower prices for heating oil and natural gas compared to last year, making natural gas the most cost-effective option this season. With prices at €1.10/liter for heating oil and €0.07/kWh for natural gas, households can benefit from the anticipated price reductions this winter.
