Twin brothers James and Daniel Buckley from Co Cork have found a clever way to reduce waste from their family cheesemaking business by using surplus whey to make eco-friendly soups for their new business ‘Souper-Fresh’.
After seeing tons of whey going to waste at their grandparents’ cheese farm in Co Tipperary, the 21-year-olds decided to turn this superfood into a profitable venture. Their innovative approach earned them the Little Learners Young Innovator of the Year award from the All-Ireland Business Foundation.
James emphasized the challenges of starting a business in the food industry, especially when using perceived waste products like whey. He called for more government support in the form of grants for startups working with upcycled materials.
