US Secretary of State Expresses Concerns About China’s Support for Russia
During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the UN General Assembly, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken raised strong concerns about China’s support for Russia’s defense industry amid the conflict in Ukraine. Blinken questioned Beijing’s sincerity in seeking peace in Ukraine, citing that while China claims to want peace, its actions support Putin’s aggression.
China Responds to Accusations
China denied supplying Russia with weapons for use in Ukraine but admitted providing essential materials for military production. Wang Yi emphasized China’s advocacy for peace through dialogue and criticized the US for “smearing” China and planting evidence against them.
Global Efforts for Peace
China and Brazil led a meeting of 17 countries to rally support for a Ukraine peace plan. Wang Yi stressed the importance of international support for a peace conference involving Russia and Ukraine, focusing on preventing escalation and attacks on nuclear power plants.
In his UN address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized China and Brazil’s negotiation efforts, emphasizing the need for a genuine commitment to peace in Ukraine.
