Baltic states, Poland seek EU funds for border defense line

Nato members Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland are planning to build a network of bunkers, barriers, distribution lines, and military warehouses along their borders with Russia and Belarus. This initiative, known as the “Baltic Defense Line” and “Eastern Shield,” aims to enhance security in the region and align with Nato’s forward defense concept.

Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur emphasized the importance of coordinating activities with Poland and highlighted the project’s contribution to both Nato’s defense strategy and the security of the European Union. The defense ministers of the four countries recently met to discuss funding for the project in Daugavpils, Latvia.

This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to strengthening borders and bolstering defense capabilities against potential threats. By seeking European Union funding, the member states are aiming to ensure the project’s successful implementation and enhance regional security.
