Preserving History: Balochistan Assembly Building Faces Demolition
The Balochistan government has made the decision to demolish the iconic Balochi Gidaan-style building of the Balochistan Assembly, constructed 37 years ago. The new building will be built at Zarghoon Road, replacing the historic structure that has stood as a symbol of the region’s heritage.
While the government is moving forward with their plans, opposition members are protesting the decision, citing the pressing issues in the province such as the high number of out-of-school children. They argue that allocating over Rs5 billion for the demolition of a 37-year-old building is not a wise use of public funds.
The Balochi Gidaan-style building was a vision of late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, who laid the foundation stone in 1973. Completed in 1987, the building has significant historical value for the people of Balochistan.
Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Captain Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, has confirmed the reports and stated that a Chinese firm will oversee the construction of the new building, promising its completion within a year.
