Authorities in South Africa have launched a manhunt following a tragic mass shooting in the southeastern part of the country, where such incidents have unfortunately become more common.
Seventeen people, mostly women, were killed in two houses in a rural town in Eastern Cape province. The suspects are currently being sought by the police.
The shooting occurred during a family gathering in Lusikisiki, with 12 women and a man killed in one house and three women and a man killed in another. Several survivors, including a two-month-old baby, were also reported.
Manhunt underway
Authorities are determined to solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice. With a high number of homicides and mass shootings in the country, the strict firearm laws are being challenged by the presence of illegal guns in circulation.
