With the rise in waterborne diseases in Karachi, the city administration is taking action by establishing 29 chlorination centers to enhance the quality of potable water supplied by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC). Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced this initiative, aiming to ensure the provision of safe tap water to the residents.
In addition to the chlorination centers, four facilitation centers of the KWSC are also being set up across the city. These efforts are part of a larger plan to improve the supply of safe and consumable water to the citizens, addressing concerns raised by health experts and organizations like the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA).
The mayor highlighted ongoing projects, including a Rs12 billion initiative to construct a new canal from Hub Dam for increased water supply to Karachi. Additionally, the KWSC TP-3 plant is now operational, treating 35 million gallons of sewage per day for safe disposal.
Through these projects, Mayor Wahab aims to bring a positive change in the city’s water supply situation within a year, benefiting districts West, Central, Keamari, and South, and ultimately improving the overall quality of life for Karachi’s residents.
