World leaders gathered on the third day of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York to discuss various global issues, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. European Council President Charles Michel emphasized the need for China to refrain from supporting Russia in its illegal war against Ukraine. Austrian Federal Minister Alexander Schallenberg stressed the importance of upholding international law in negotiations concerning Ukraine. Liechtenstein’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dominique Hasler highlighted the devastating impact of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine and called for a just peace based on international law.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and emphasized the significance of the conflict as a challenge to the rules-based order. German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock urged President Vladimir Putin to end the attacks and engage in negotiations. Several other leaders, including the Prime Minister of the UK, the President of North Macedonia, and the President of Kenya, also addressed the need for dialogue, diplomacy, and international cooperation to resolve conflicts and promote peace. The General Assembly session focused on the global repercussions of ongoing conflicts and the importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter.
