The United States is offering a $20 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Shahram Poursafi, a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who is accused of plotting to assassinate former US national security advisor John Bolton. Poursafi allegedly attempted to hire criminals to carry out the assassination and offered a significant sum of money for the job. This scheme is believed to be a retaliation for the killing of Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani by the Donald Trump administration.
Poursafi, who has been designated as a specially designated global terrorist by the US Treasury Department, is reported to have engaged with individuals in the US to carry out the assassination. John Bolton, upon learning of the plot, expressed surprise at the low price offered for his assassination. Notably, President Trump approved the drone strike that killed Soleimani, sparking tensions between the US and Iran.
Threats and Allegations
Recent allegations suggest that Iran may be attempting to destabilize the US by targeting political figures. Coordinated attacks and threats have raised concerns, with reports of hacking attempts on government officials and political campaigns.
