In a surprising turn of events, the United States of America was caught off guard by the recent Israeli attack on Beirut, Lebanon. The Pentagon confirmed that they had no prior warning about the operation.
Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh emphasized that the US was not involved in the attack and Defense Minister Lloyd Austin only found out about it while it was already underway.
The US is now in the process of evaluating the situation, with no additional information available at the moment.
The Israeli military targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut in an effort to hit the Lebanese Hezbollah group, sparking intense clashes between the two sides.
Since last year, the Israeli army has been engaged in ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, resulting in numerous airstrikes on various regions of Lebanon and causing significant casualties and displacements.
Lebanese authorities reported 773 deaths and around 150,000 people displaced due to the bombing.
