The UK government is surpassing its initial promise to provide military aid to Ukraine by sending more AS-90 self-propelled howitzers. Originally pledging 10, the UK government has increased the number to 16, with 10 already delivered and the remaining 6 to follow soon, providing crucial support for Ukrainian troops.
The AS-90 is a highly capable artillery system that can fire various types of shells at significant distances. In addition to the artillery deliveries, the UK has committed to providing £3 billion annually in military support to Ukraine until at least 2030/31.
Furthermore, the UK has announced the establishment of a joint unit between the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to enhance support to Ukraine. This innovative approach is intended to combine military, technical, and political expertise.
In a separate announcement, the UK imposed sanctions on Russian vessels and associated entities involved in shipping Russian liquefied natural gas, significantly impacting Putin’s funding for the war in Ukraine. This strong stance aligns with the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict.
