Section 144 Imposed in Rawalpindi; PTI Calls Gathering at Liaquat Bagh on Saturday

Punjab Government Imposes Section 144 in Rawalpindi District, PTI Rally Plans Cancelled

The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 in Rawalpindi district, prohibiting public gatherings for two days as a precautionary measure. This move comes after the PTI announced plans for a rally at Liaquat Bagh, which has now been cancelled.

Section 144 allows district administrations to restrict assemblies of four or more people to maintain law and order and prevent potential disturbances. The PTI had applied for a no-objection certificate for the rally, but concerns about government interference led to its cancellation.

Despite the cancellation, PTI’s Omar Ayub Khan has urged supporters to gather at Liaquat Bagh, emphasizing their constitutional right to assemble. Previous PTI rallies have faced challenges, with a recent event in Lahore ending abruptly due to time constraints and clashes between supporters and officials in Islamabad.

The government’s decision to impose Section 144 aims to ensure the security of citizens and prevent any untoward activities during the weekend. With tensions high, the political landscape in Punjab remains volatile as parties navigate restrictions and protests.
