Parents of children with disabilities who are educated at the Mjedenica Institution gathered in front of the Sarajevo Canton Government building demanding more sensibility and support for their children. The workshop at the institution, which has been a safe haven for these individuals for years, was closed earlier this year, leaving the parents concerned about the future.
The Cantonal Government promises to seek a long-term solution for providing support for adults with disabilities and their inclusion in the labor market. Parents stress the importance of inclusion and active participation in all spheres of life for individuals with disabilities.
The participants at Mjedenica, many of whom have been attending the workshop for years, have struggled emotionally with its closure. Their parents are determined to fight for a permanent solution, fearing what will happen when the current support ends in 2025.
Despite the challenges, the parents remain resilient in their fight for their children’s rights. They hope to prevent similar struggles for future generations and are urging the government to prioritize improving social services for individuals with disabilities.
